A CASED PAIR OF 50-BORE PERCUSSION TARGET-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1850, with re-blacked 10in. rifled octagonal barrels, the central sections with narrow flutes and turned through one sixteenth, radiused muzzles, dove-tailed fore-sight bead, standing rear-sight notch to breech, scroll engraved top-tangs and breech-blocks, carved and fenced snails, isolated hump-backed bar-action scroll engraved locks signed below the hammers 'GRANDINEAU A PARIS', walnut half-stocks with fluted flared butts and church steeple iron pommel-caps, spurred engraved trigger-guard bows and scroll carving to the fore-end tips, complete with their manufacturer's walnut case, lined and compartmented in the Continental style in brown velvet (mostly faded to pale green) and containing a full suite of accessories original to these pistols, the inside of lid gold blocked 'GRANDINEAU A PARIS'
